About FESPB

The Federation of the European Societies of Plant Biology (FESPB) is a not-for-profit organization of Plant Biologists first set-up 1978 with the aim of promoting basic and applied plant science from the molecular level to whole plant physiology. The current FESPB membership comprises approximately 3200 plant scientists drawn from each of the 30 countries of western, central and eastern Europe. Its major activity is to arrange a large scientific congress every other year. More than 1000 plant scientists attend these congresses along with major publishers, manufacturers and suppliers who display their products. The congresses are held in a different European city each time. The last congress (in 2008) was in Tampere, Finland; the next (July 2010) will be held in Valencia, Spain and in 2012 in Freiburg, Germany.
In addition, FESPB publishes a bi- monthly FESPBNewsletter. This is distributed to all members and is mounted on the FESPB web site (www.fespb.org). The web site also carries details of the FESPB organization, useful links, membership list, current activities, and a job vacancy page. The Federation also has important working links with six major plant science journals (Physiologia Plantarum, Journal of Plant Physiology, Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, Journal of Experimental Botany, Functional Plant Biology  and Plant Biology) that it supports editorially and in other ways.
FESPB has no professional secretariat and runs entirely on voluntary work by its members. It is therefore a highly cost-effective organization with only 4.3 % of its income being spent on administration.
